Project title: Floating Water Treatment Plant for the Flood Victims (ASHF)
Project context:
A recent flash flood has devasted the north-eastern districts Sylhet, Sunamganj, Hobiganj and other northern districts in Bangladesh. The heavy rainfall started on 10th June 2022 while the Northeastern Indian states, Meghaloya Cherrapunji was almost inundated with increased water level of the rivers in Sylhet division. There has been record level of rain in the month of June 2022 in Cherrapunji within last 122 years.
Thousands of poor families have lost their house, livestock, and other household commodities due to this massive flood. The houses including toilets, tube-well and wastes have been inundated by the flood water, hence a severe crisis of drinking water has occurred causing water-borne disease like diarrhea which has spread-out quickly in the whole community. Under the proposed project, we are considering a two-ton capacity water treatment plant with five preservers of 19,000 litres on a floating engine boat that will serve purified drinking water of 10,000 gallons every day to about 5,000 flood victim families in the project locations.
